What Julia’s students are saying

“Studying with Dr. Kang was one of the most influential experiences of my early cello journey in high school. Looking back now as a doctoral student in cello, I can confidently say that a lot of the foundation I rely on today was built in her studio. She is an outstanding teacher who genuinely cares about each student’s growth, both musically and personally. Every lesson was thoughtfully tailored to my personal strength, challenges and goals. She not only helped me develop strong technical skills but also taught me how to think critically about music and communicate through playing. I learned to truly appreciate music rather than simply play the notes on the page. She always encouraged me to explore different repertoire and styles which challenged and helped me in my music journey. She consistently goes above and beyond by providing encouragement, creating opportunities to perform and grow and helping students discover their own voice in cello. Her support extended far beyond weekly lesson, including studio recitals, entering competitions, summer festivals, and more. I will always be grateful for her guidance and mentorship! ”

“I’ve been so lucky to have Julia as my teacher since middle school. She helped me grow so much as a musician, but more than that, she has always believed in me and genuinely cared about me as a person. She opened so many doors for me and encouraged me to take opportunities I never would have otherwise. I truly wouldn’t be the musician I am today without her support.”

“Lessons with cellist Julia Kang are about so much more than just learning an instrument. Students get to learn firsthand by observing her family's dynamic, living and breathing music alongside her husband, multi-instrumentalist Tomoya Aomori, and their son, Kento. Through her signature charisma, Julia’s teaching style is both gentle and bold, guiding children to naturally build a lifelong friendship with music.”

-Suzie Park, Parent of a former student

“I am so very grateful to have Dr. Julia Kang pour out her dedicated support into each step of my musical journey. Her lessons have truly helped foster my artistic curiosity and personal sense of expression in a way that I have never experienced before. After each lesson with Dr. Kang, I learn that she’s not only an engaging teacher but also an inspiring mentor. There is no one like her who would always believe in me and give me the confidence to reach beyond what I think I could achieve. I cannot wait to see what lies ahead in my growth as a cellist with Dr. Kang right by my side.”
